Banana Chips

brilliant bare bananas from Nagercoil, chopped and chipped, sliced and slivered, oiled and fried, seasoned and blended with flakes of salt and pepper, packed and paradised that taste a little more than good, a little more than awesome, a little more than everything else .

This banana chips of nagercoil derive their unique genesis from a typical varaity of bananas  called nenthirengai. selected unripe bananas are peeled and sliced into perfectly circular wafers, sprinkled with just the right amount of salt , pepper and tumeric powder, dried in shape and deep fried in refined oil. the classic blend of deep color, flavor and aroma make these chips just intoxicating !

Aviyal

This is purely Nagercoil style Aviyal . It looks in golden yellow Aviyal with more coconut. Either Tamarind or Raw mango is used instead of curd. Cucumber (Big size)  used in this Aviyal  gives a special flavour. This Aviyal does not contain much gravy. Any feast without this Aviyal is incomplete in Tamilnadu. Since curd is not added it stays fresh for the whole day. It differs from Aviyal made from other parts of Tamilnadu in many ways. Generally turmeric powder is not added in Aviyal in other parts. In this version curd is not used where as that is mandatory in usual Aviyal. You will be amazed to know that the people of Nagercoil that is Kanyakumari district feel that their Aviyal is the original version. In olden days raw rice is not used to grind with coconut for binding or thickening. Only coconut in large quantity was used.

Parotta Salna

Have you ever had hot parota with spicy salna on a cold raining day..My goodness nothing gets better than this..Specially there are many “parotta kadai” shops in nagercoil, they serve the best salna ever..It is spicy, hot and fully of flavour. Each mouthful taste so yummy and good. If you ever ask me what is the last meal which you want to eat in this earth means, the answer will be “parota & salna”. Yes I am so crazy about that.  There is something in that magical masala which goes in this salna which totally make this..Try to simmer the gravy for a longer time, so that you will get the real flavour of the salna..This salna taste best with roti, dosa and even with idli..I hope you will try this out
